Adaptive Predictive Expert Control ADEX S.L. (ADEX) is a spin-off from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) based in Madrid. It holds the international patents for Adaptive Predictive Expert Control ADEX technology, which is the culmination of more than 30 years of research and development, 5 patents, 4 books and more than 100 scientific papers. Based on this technology, ADEX has developed and introduced in industry the so called Optimized Adaptive Control systems (OACS), also named ADEX systems, which represent a disruptive technology for industrial control. Their application to industrial processes guarantees stability and optimal operation due to their unique adaptive self-adjusting capability to the process time-varying nature and operating context. This capability avoids their performance to deteriorate in the presence of changes in the process dynamics, point of operation or under the effect of perturbations, as it happens to conventional control systems nowadays in the market.
The main activities of ADEX are described as follows:
- Process Control and Optimization R+D: The research team of ADEX S.L. has more than 30 years of ongoing R+D activity in the area of process control and optimization, leading to the introduction and industrial application of Predictive; Adaptive Predictive and ADEX control methodologies.
- Development and Implementation of ADEX Systems: Once an Optimized Control Strategy has been tested and validated for a certain kind of process, a generic ADEX System for the optimized adaptive control of this kind of process is developed and applied.
- Engineering Support for Overall Plant Optimization: The ADEX Company also supports clients to define solutions for the overall optimization of plant, especially with regard to areas such as logistics, maintenance, instrumentation and process design.
The ADEX Company has successfully developed and applied ADEX systems in a wide variety of industrial areas, such as energy, refining, aerospace, chemical, composites materials, environmental, cement and food industry (see www.adexcop.com). ADEX has participated in the European FP7 Flexi-Burn project “Development of High Efficiency CFB Technology to Provide Flexible Air/Oxy Operation for Power Plant with CCS”. ADEX has currently been invited to prepare the GA for a European H2020-SMEINST-1-2014 (650877) project “AST-FCS”, whose objective is the commercialization of the first Adaptive Self-Tuning Flight Control System in the history of aeronautics.
In the nuclear area, ADEX participated with UNED in the FP6 Eurotrans project “European Research Program for the transmutation of High Level Nuclear Waste in an Accelerator Driven System”, where it contributed within Domain 1 to the deliverable D1.61, Design of the Final Beam Line for the XT-ADS. Likewise, ADEX has participated in the FP7 CDT project “Central Design Team”, and in the FP7 MAX project “MYRRHA Accelerator eXperiment, research & development programme”, being the leader for Task 3.2 “Experimental evaluation of ADEX control on a 700 MHz prototypical cryomodule”.
ADEX will participate in Task 2.5 “Control system development in a highly reliable accelerator context” of MYRTE WP2 to develop and test intelligent regulation. Their unique adaptive predictive expert control technology and large experience in the development of optimized adaptive control systems make ADEX perfectly capable of carrying out satisfactorily their responsibilities within this task.
